Building a founding Product and Engineering team for a pre-seed HealthTech startup

The Challenge

Myndstream is a HealthTech startup using personalised audio experiences to improve wellbeing. Following investment, the business needed to make several critical founding hires and was introduced to Burns Sheehan through a trusted recommendation after struggling to secure the right talent through another agency.

Working closely with the Founder and Head of Product & Technology, Burns Sheehan was initially engaged to hire two Founding Software Engineers to help build the product and lay the foundation for the engineering team.

The team needed product-minded builders comfortable with ambiguity, ownership, and an early-stage pace, and who would buy into the business's long-term vision. As with many founding-level hires, candidates were evaluating the opportunity just as carefully as the company was evaluating them.

The Solution

Burns Sheehan worked closely with the leadership team to refine how the opportunity was positioned to market. Through regular calibration sessions and weekly catch-ups, we helped shape the narrative around the product, growth plans, and the impact of the Founding Engineer roles.

Alongside candidate delivery, we provided market insight on compensation, equity, and hiring process design, helping Myndstream remain competitive in a highly selective founding-engineer market.

As hiring priorities evolved, so did the partnership. What began as a search for two Founding Engineers expanded into support across Product, Design and additional Engineering hires, allowing the business to scale without losing momentum.
