About the event

Our TechOps team hosted another brilliant roundtable for Cloud & DevOps leaders in September. The conversation focused on navigating the cloud in 2024, particularly a topic that continues to come up a lot —managing teams in asynchronous and hybrid environments. While flexible working is great for attracting and widening your talent pool, it does make it harder for managers to spot early signs of burnout.

We spent a lot of time discussing how to keep teams connected and engaged remotely. 121s are key - make sure you're creating space to listen and have real conversations, not just feedback sessions. Also organising ‘face time’ around what things that people genuinely enjoy will help with team buy-in, like cricket afternoons, wine and cheese evenings, or online gaming sessions.

It’s a conversation we’ve been having for the last 5 years, especially as companies are still figuring out what works best. Take Amazon’s recent shift back to four days in the office and the backlash —it’s clear there’s no perfect solution for building a strong team culture and sense of synergy in remote or hybrid settings. It was really insightful to hear how different teams across various industries and stages, are tackling these challenges.
