About the event

Check out the highlights from our recent DevOps meetup, where we got together for an evening of networking, food, drinks, and enlightening talks about the world of 'DevOps.' 🍕🍷

Our three speakers took us through the skillsets, mindset and experiences that have taken them through their careers in Cloud & SRE. We dove into the real definition and role of 'DevOps' within a business and had a lively debate and Q&A about the different job titles associated with it, their suitability, and why some companies struggle to implement DevOps effectively.

We were thrilled to have experts from Depop, XDesign, and Jaguar Land Rover as our guest speakers who spoke openly about their personal experiences and shed light on how things work in their organisations.

Here are some key takeaways from the evening:

- For those interested in pursuing a career in SRE, being a multi-disciplinary engineer can make a real difference. Having a good grasp of various programming languages, databases, and the development lifecycle can boost your skills and help you set clear and transparent standards.

- When you're looking for a new role and updating your CV, don't get caught up in buzzword bingo. Instead, focus on showcasing your soft skills and be honest about what you've learned from your experiences. Soft skills are vital in DevOps because a big part of the job involves driving cultural change and shifting behaviours.

- DevOps was originally created to break down silos, but things have gotten complicated with all the different job titles associated with it. There's often a lack of clarity regarding the responsibilities of these roles. The main reason DevOps fails is when the focus becomes too fixated on technology, overshadowing the importance of people and cultural adaptation.
