One of the UK's most successful companies of the 21st century are in search of a Operations Engineer with some good exposure to the likes of Docker containerisation and strong knowledge and experience of a configuration management tool (pref Puppet and/or Ansible). This company have recently recorded record monthly visits to their website of 142 million!
You will be a part of a friendly, sociable operations team, currently consisting of 13 people, who are responsible for running and maintaining the operating environment that supports this high-traffic website with an impressive up-time of 99.99%!! In terms of team morale and atmosphere, you'll be hard pressed to find a more sociable, friendly and welcoming bunch anywhere else in London. With a work hard, play hard mentality, the team will often have extended Friday lunches to celebrate the successes of the week!
You will join their close-knit and sociable Operations Team, many of whom are stalwarts and vital components of this huge property portal. This company are not only famous in the UK but, also globally recognised as pioneers and leaders in their field and with over 120 million website views per month, they're experiencing year on year exponential growth both financially and in headcount.
The Operations Team work very closely with the Development teams and they're looking for the Linux Systems Administrator to bring to the team an understanding of the impact of application design on the performance, resilience, availability and security of the website, as well as advise and assist application development teams with all infrastructure considerations relevant to their work.
The Tech Environment & The Role:
The Operations Engineer will have experience with the following:
- Linux systems administration (Red Hat Enterprise Linux / Centos 6).
- Scripting (Bash, Perl)
- Configuration Management (Puppet, Ansible, Vagrant).
- Monitoring (Xymon)
- Version Control (SVN, Git)
- Server Hardware
- High traffic customer website
And some of the following:
- Docker / Containerisation
- Storage (Netapp, 3Par).
- Networking (Brocade, Juniper).
- Load Balancing (F5).
- The HTTP protocol and the TCP/IP protocol stack
- Security controls and risk.
There is a modest on-call rota in which you'll be expected to be involved in, once you've established yourself in the business. This is around 1 week in 9 at present and isn't extensive but can make you an extra £3,000 - £4,000 p/a.
You will have the opportunity to bring your knowledge to the team sharing this by mentoring less experienced team members on technical matters.
