John Beesley

DevOps Engineer | Manchester City Centre

Do you see DevOps as a list of job duties, or as a mentality?

If it's the latter, would you like to work within an organisation with automation & cloud tools at the heart of everything they do? Where engineers come to break stuff, fix it and make it faster and more reliable than it was before?

One of Manchester's fastest growing technology businesses (circa 40 new hires in 2019 so far) is expanding its DevOps capabilities and they need bright, multi-faceted engineers to make this happen. Sitting in the heart of an agile development squad, you'll help them to build and maintain robust, scalable pipelines utilising contemporary CI/CD, containerisation & cloud technologies.

Their customers love them. They're the market leaders within the UK and receive millions of unique visits each month, and people come back for a very good reason. With a mission built around making peoples' lives easier, they're continuing to innovate and 2019/2020 will see the release of a number of innovative new products.

You'll be comfortable with most of the tools/concepts below. If you haven't been exposed to everything, they'll give you the training and support you need to get up to speed.

  • Linux system administration - Redhat OR CentOS
  • AWS - EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Cloudwatch, etc
  • CI/CD - Jenkins
  • Scripting - Python, Ruby or Bash
  • Source control - Git
  • Containers - Docker, Kubernetes/Swarm, OpenShift
  • Monitoring tools

Ideally you'll have worked in an environment with a reasonable cluster of virtualised or public cloud based servers. Above all, you'll be passionate about building and maintaining secure, stable and fast environments.

The Offer

  • Salary worth up to £55,000
  • Annual bonus split between personal & company performance
  • Flexible working (10am-3pm core hours) and work from home
  • 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays. Not enough? Buy more!
  • Pension, personal development allowance, regular company events and socials.
