We're currently partnered with an award-winning Liverpool technology business who are currently looking for a Software Engineering Manager. Their products are trusted by a wealth of customers in the education and medical sectors, and they are now expanding their Software Engineering team.

The business is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to oversee the smooth running of their Squads, ensuring the team is highly motivated and they have effective, predictable, and sustainable delivery of roadmap items, platform optimisations, and technical support. They're looking for a Software Engineering Manager to share their knowledge and work together with their global colleagues to build the best practices across the organization.

You'll be line managing team members from several squads, providing a blend of coaching, guidance, personal development, and pastoral care. The role will be reporting into the Global VP of Engineering, supporting them in both strategic and operational matters, such as resource planning, risk management, performance metrics, and cultural aspects of the Engineering department.

What will you be doing:

  • Manage and mentor a group of Engineers at all levels of experience, from different specialities, across multiple squads.
  • Build strong relationships across the business at all levels, earning the trust and respect of your reports, peers, and leadership figures in the organization.
  • Work alongside Team Leaders and Product Owners to define success criteria in terms of milestone delivery.
  • Coach and guide Engineers in both personal and professional development, identifying learning goals that benefit the organization and the individual, and making them happen.
  • Collaborate with their recruitment team to design and implement hiring and retention strategies that bring in the right Engineers.
  • Work with squads to improve their effectiveness through process improvements, using Agile methodologies and other modern software engineering practices.
  • Work with squads during times of difficulty, such as incident management, to provide stability and ensure composed resolution.
  • Indirectly support the successful delivery of product and development milestones through all of the above.

What we're looking for:

  • Although this role is not "hands on" with the code, you'll have a background in software engineering, and a breadth of knowledge covering core disciples within the software development lifecycle.
  • Previous experience of leading small teams and mentoring Engineers.
  • You will be well versed in Agile methodologies.
  • Identity areas in the team that could improve and champion these initiatives within the business together with the Global VP of Engineering.
