10 Dec 15 Staff corner
Welcome to our staff corner, where we’ll introduce you to the members of the Burns Sheehan team!
As this year draws to a close, we’ve got lots of exciting things to reminisce about! This year we’ve moved in to our stunning, brand-spanking-new offices, had two lots of successful consultants graduate from the training scheme and worked with some of the hottest tech businesses in London. We’re always looking to speak with motivated bright sparks – so if you think that Burns Sheehan sounds like the bees knees, get in touch!
Hannah joined our training programme in September, and passed the scheme with flying colours. She is currently working with the Digital team as a Product specialist.
Hi Hannah, how did you come to work for Burns Sheehan?
I did a graduate scheme with a large retail business, but didn’t really like the industry. I started looking for other jobs and spoke to a recruiter who suggested I consider recruitment as a career – I’d thought about it but had never pursued it seriously. He talked me through the career pathway and it really sparked my interested so I met with a few recruitment companies. My interview with Burns Sheehan wasn’t like other agencies I’d interviewed with, the environment was friendly and informal – I really wanted to work here and the rest is history!
How would you describe Burns Sheehan in 3 words?
Fun, friendly and maybe just a little bit crazy…
What in your opinion is the best thing about being in recruitment?
That’s a difficult questions – it’s hard to choose one thing! I think building your network and getting out there to meet people is the best part. It’s not just a desk job. It helps to build your confidence. Last night we were out for drinks with a client, and whilst it technically was “work” it really didn’t feel like it!
And what’s the worst thing?
When you invest a lot of time in a role or project and don’t get the outcome you want. There are lots of ups, but the downs can be very down.
What area or market do you specialise in?
I work with Product Managers and Product Owners in the digital space, so people who have ownership of a website, mobile app or similar. They’re in charge of delivery and design, and then maintenance of that product.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be a teacher. I remember really clearly going up to my reception teacher and telling her I wanted to be just like her.
Adorable! What’s your biggest pet hate?
People walking really slowly in front of me. It’s a really big issue in London! So annoying.
You’re quite right – too many people stop for a selfie on London Bridge. What do you get up to in your spare time?
I like to go out with my friends. I watch a lot of Netflix – I’ve just finished the latest season of “American Horror Story” and the whole “How To Get Away With Murder” series.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Haha…Netflix? Binge watching. And binge eating whilst I binge watch.
I think we’re all guilty of that. Tell me something about yourself that people might not know.
I once climbed to Everest Base Camp! Back at university we did it for charity and raised over two thousand pounds. On the way up, they fed us food that’s meant to prevent altitude sickness, like garlic soup.
Sounds delicious…What would you take with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
If I could I would literally take Netflix with me. Can I take never-ending chocolate? I might get sick of it, but I think that’s what I’d want.
Finally, what advice would you give someone considering a career in recruitment?
It is harder than you might imagine, but it’s also so much fun. The role has highs and lows – there’s so many rewarding parts. I’ve heard people saying that anyone can do recruitment, or that it’s what drop-outs do, but that really isn’t true. It’s tough but offers a fantastic career for the right person!
Finally, if you could describe yourself with a picture what would it be?
